EMSD co-organises Global AI Challenge for Building E&M Facilities - Awards Ceremony and commissioning of E&M AI Lab (with photos)

Co-organised by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the Global AI Challenge for Building E&M Facilities - Awards Ceremony and the launch of the E&M AI Lab are being held physically at Cyberport and online today (September 23).
The Global AI Challenge for Building E&M Facilities focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the building electrical and mechanical (E&M) industry and has gathered innovators from around the world who share a common interest in AI application on building E&M facilities. More than 40 organisations around the globe have supported the event as co-organisers and supporting organisations. The competition has received an overwhelming global response of more than 120 teams from 10 geographical regions participating in the competition.
The Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau, as the event adviser, officiated at the Awards Ceremony and the commissioning of the E&M AI Lab together with the EMSD and the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology. The E&M AI Lab is a collaborative initiative by the EMSD, in collaboration with stakeholders from the Government, industry, academia and research institutes. The Lab focuses in particular three core areas are identified as a data hub, semantic AI and a co-creation platform.
Addressing the ceremony, the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, said that the competition serves as a solid platform for the contestants to compute real data through AI to accurately predict the cooling load demand of a building. The prediction model will also shed light on the research and development of smart building technology for the industry. Improving building energy efficiency and reducing overall energy consumption can help achieve the goal of carbon neutrality in the long run. He also pointed out that with the rapid development of AI and advanced construction technology, more smart green buildings will be erected in Hong Kong in the future to bring a safe, sustainable living environment to members of the public and greatly improve the quality of life.
The Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Eric Pang, said that the Global AI Challenge for Building E&M Facilities offers a rare opportunity to gather leading researchers, scientists, experts, engineers and industry leaders of all ages from around the world. He also pointed out that the setting up of the E&M AI Lab significantly helps accelerate effective partnerships in support of big data and AI development on building E&M facilities.
