A spokesman for the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (March 29) said that the department has recently received public enquiries on an email purportedly issued by the Secretary of the Environment, inviting recipients to take part in "Guided visit with a theme on Enhancing Environment Al Capacity" on April 4 in Tuen Mun. Attached to the email is a letter bearing the logos of the EPD and the Climate Ready @ Hong Kong campaign. The recipients were also asked to open another attachment in the email and to provide their email address and password.
The EPD wishes to alert members of the public that the department has not arranged the above-mentioned activity or sent out any related email. When the EPD issues invitations for its activities or events, the relevant communications such as email or letters will bear the name of the EPD officer concerned and contact information for enquiries.
The EPD has no connection with this fraudulent email, which did not carry the name of any EPD officer or contact information for enquiries. The EPD has reported the case to the Police. Members of the public who have received the email should discard it immediately and refrain from opening any attachment. They can also call the EPD hotline at 2838 3111 for enquiries.
