Pilot Scheme on Food Waste Smart Recycling Bins in Private Housing Estates

Environment and Conservation Fund Sustainable School Food Programme –Research on sustainable school food with students from selected local schools

To pilot a sustainable school food programme with 10 selected local schools in collaboration with school food caterers to introduce and promote the adoption of sustainable, low-carbon school meals at selected schools, including a one-day Sustainable School and Food Behaviour Change Summit.

kNOw Carbon House (Former Wan Chai Environmental Resource Centre)

The former Wan Chai Environmental Resource Centre has been transformed into the “kNOw Carbon House” after renovation and is ready to meet the public. With the theme of carbon neutrality, the new “kNOw Carbon House” aims to raise public awareness on the subject through a wide variety of interactive experience and educational activities, including interactive games, talks, environmental workshops, etc. Apart from honouring the original architecture and keeping items with historic value from the Old Wan Chai Post Office, the new “kNOw Carbon House” also provides multimedia educational materials to make your visits more delightful. The well-known mascot “Big Waster” is also there to introduce to all of us how we can lead a low-carbon lifestyle by making small changes in our daily habits in respect of clothing, food, living and travel. Members of the public and groups can book the guided tour service and workshop activities through the online system.

Application for the first quarterly “Low Carbon Lifestyle Poster Design Contest” with “Clothing” as its theme was ended on 12 February 2025. The list of awardees will be announced on the kNOw Carbon House website in Q1 2025.

Promotion Programme on Source Separation of Waste

To provide free waste separation bins for residential, commercial and industrial buildings, and schools with the aim of improving the waste separation facilities and expanding the range of recyclables to be recovered in these buildings. The programme assists property management companies and schools in implementing effective waste sorting and recycling models, thereby increasing the recycling rates in these buildings. Participating buildings will be required to schedule regular waste collection for recycling purposes, either through contracted cleaning companies or recyclers.

Reusable Tableware Lending Programme for Large-scale Events

To provide free delivery, collection and cleaning services of tableware to large-scale event organisers. The objectives are to reduce the use of disposable tableware in large-scale events and encourage citizens to practise waste reduction at source.

CIC-ZCP STEAM Lab

The Construction Industry Council (“CIC”) has been at the forefront of fostering future construction talents. As part of its continued initiatives to promote STEAM education and emphasis its importance to future scientific and technological developments, CIC-Zero Carbon Park (CIC-ZCP) will be launching its new “STEAM Lab” exhibition aiming to inspire and support the next generation.

CIC-ZCP STEAM Lab will serve as an educational platform for exploring innovative construction techniques and industry knowledge as well as cultivating future talents in construction innovation to pursue carbon neutrality.
