To foster a greener future, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is proactively taking a leading role in energy saving initiatives, targeting significant carbon reduction. HKIA has embraced advanced energy management solutions, including Al-driven tools for chiller control and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Additionally, HKIA is systematically transitioning its diesel vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) and expanding a robust charging infrastructure towards a green transportation city. They are also part of the essential infrastructure backbone for autonomous mobility. By integrating clean energy sources and enabling smart grid coordination, HKIA not only reduces carbon intensity but also enhances its operational resilience.
Looking ahead, HKIA demonstrates successful transformation through the seamless integration of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, and SG connectivity. This technological convergence, combined with intelligent energy management, is reshaping airport ground transportation into a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable system - setting a benchmark for the future of sustainable mobility in aviation.
The advanced intelligent tasking technologies improve road traffic efficiency, support real-time fleet optimization and thereby reduce overall energy consumption. While the advanced Central Vehicle System facilitates continuous self-learning on AV health status to enables the best practice on predictive maintenance for serviceability maximization and asset life extension.
This presentation showcases the roadmap along energy management and autonomous transportation not only supporting carbon neutrality but also establishing a new chapter for sustainable airport operations.
