Electrification in construction sites:

  • From 2023, all new passenger car purchases to be EV.
  • Further engagement with the Government and more associations for Power Up Coalition (PUC) to accelerate early electrification.
  • We are actively exploring more options for electric equipment, including introducing Hong Kong’s first electric crawler crane in 2022 and other electric plants.
  • Mass battery storage systems such as Enertainers have been widely deployed on construction sites since we first introduced it in 2019. Up to 2023, we have over 30 active Enertainers on site.

Diesel usage reduction:

  • We aim to phase out all diesel (only) generators by 2033 to reduce scope 1 emission.

Renewable energy adoption:

  • Several solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have been connected to the grid under the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme since 2018, contributing to the increased proportion of renewable energy in HKSAR’s energy mix.

Green materials and technologies:

  • We carried out Hong Kong’s first trials of CarbonCure technology which reduces cement content by injecting and capturing CO2 to ultimately reduce carbon. We will continue investing on carbon-reduction technology.
  • In 2022, our Concrete Technology Services (CTS) trialed further embodied carbon reduction options including the use of ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) as a cement replacement. The technology will be further applied in more foundations and sub/superstructure projects.
  • Ramp up the percentage of Gold or Platinum certified (under CIC Green Product Certification or equivalent) low-carbon concrete mixes in all projects.

Assessment and Management:

  • Quantification of major carbon emissions for all carbon intensive project tenders.
  • Quantify the materials carbon and savings for design optimisations for all new projects (carbon intensive materials).
